Sneet reached for the gem encrusted goblet, its wine full to the brim.  "A toast!  To my dear sister, who had to go and find herself a good husband!"  Smiling, he tilted his head back and took a big swig out of the goblet as the rest of the hall did the same with their more modest wine-bearing dishes.  Unfortunately for them, they would all die, for only his goblet had been blessed to purify the poison that had been mixed into the wine.  It was a perfectly crafted poison, one of his own making.  The recipients wouldn't feel a thing, and then, when they next fell asleep, it would mix with the chemicals that the brain released into the body, and they would all perish while dreaming of sunshine and rainbows.  Nothing said that a poison had to be painful.

Alas, Sneet couldn't fully enjoy the rest of the party, knowing that another of his experiments was coming to an end.  In fact, while his experiments were dying with sweet dreams, he had a rather restless night.  He had created these life forms, so it wasn't as if they were real people with real emotions, they were just programmed to react to stimuli as if they had feelings.  He had gotten quite good at getting the different emotions down, and when one should over-power another, such as one not getting angry at a loved one, despite something horrible happening, but, over the centuries, he could mostly figure out the way his experiments would end before they had even begun.

Take for instance, this last experiment.  He made a small village, filled it with his beings, gave them their roles, and let them live for several years.  The way that he set it up, he was the brother to the most beautiful woman in town, and all the eligible men wanted to have her as a wife.  That's when he decided to put in his variable, and made a complete stranger come into the town and try to woo her, for he would obviously find her attractive, and she would be stand-offish, at best, and try to put down his efforts.  Unfortunately, not only did he have the woman going against him, but all the other guys in the town decided to join arms and run him out of town.  But, through some sort of ingenuity, he not only outsmarted them, but was able to convince the other men that he was most worthy of her hand in marriage.  It didn't take long after that for him to woo her, and marry her, and that's when Sneet had to end the experiment, for that was the sole purpose of his beings, and he had other experiments to run.

Sneet looked down at the flaming wine bottle in his hand.  This part was never fun.  He tossed the bottle in the air, and then pointed at it with his finger, with a bright flash in the sky, the one bottle split into dozens, and flew to each house in the settlement.  He might be the only living being alive on this planet, but that didn't mean that he had to be a slob, he didn't want any diseases bringing about any changes in his experiments.  As his fingers pointed at the ground, a tree sprouted up.  He stepped on top of the small leaves, pointed at the tree again, and up it grew, ten, twenty, thirty feet, and he kept rising.  Getting a view of the entire village was important, to make sure that everything burned all the way; he would then grab the few things he still had, and walk along his path, always curious about what-ifs, but always getting bored with his experiments.

Why did he have to become so powerful that he became banned to his own plane?  To seek knowledge is all that he wanted, but this was not where he thought it would get him.  For once, he actually longed to see real people, with real emotions and real faces and spirits.  The fire reflected in his watery eyes as he watched his world burn beneath him.

(hey everyone!  sorry about the super lateness of this one, and it might not be the best, but at least I'm writing!  Hope everyone is enjoying their time, and excited about NaNoWriMo!  I know I am!  during that month, I think I'll actually just post what I write for that day, and let you all follow along with the story.  As always, input is always greatly appreciated, and when I start writing my story, I will take what you guys want to happen into consideration.  Ciao! )
